Zoom and the Golden State Warriors co-hosted a live virtual event for Warriors fans and Zoom users with Warriors Guard Patrick McCaw and Vice President of GSW Ventures & Assistant General Manager Kirk Lacob. Warriors TV Host and Commentator Laurence Scott moderated the 30-minute interview over Zoom Video Webinar, with questions focused on technology as it relates to basketball.
This was the tip-off event for a multi-year partnership we’ve built with the Warriors. “Zoom is proud to be a video conferencing partner of the Warriors,” said Eric S. Yuan, Zoom’s Founder and CEO. “Both organizations are at the forefront of their fields, and we’re excited for the future of our partnership.”
The partnership is a natural fit. Zoom is a leader in video collaboration technology and the Warriors are focused on being digitally fit. In fact, the MIT Sloan Sports Analytics Conference awarded the Warriors with the 2016 award for Best Analytics Organization.
Here is a recording of the event:
This webinar was on the heels of Stephen Curry’s historic 13 three-pointer game, so it was the perfect time to discuss how technology has influenced the team’s recruiting, training, on-court performance and overall experience for their fans. Lacob said, “In the short term we’re focused on technology that can help [the players] on the court, and in the long term we’re branching out to technology that can recreate the brand experience.”
Lacob discussed how new technology has influenced the team’s training and rehab programs to help players perform their best on the court. “We’re looking at ways to enable players to stay on the court, and to help them get back on the court sooner after an injury.”
Technology also affects the team’s competitive analysis and scouting. For example, they use a software that organizes video so the coaches and scouts can sort through games and possessions quickly to see only relevant information, such as every pick-and-roll from an opposing team or every play made by a player they’re scouting. “This technology gives us an advantage because we’re able to sift through a lot of information very quickly,” said Lacob.
Zoom is proud of its partnership with the Warriors. Our organizations certainly share a philosophy in striving for excellence: “You should be relentless with your approach. You should try to be the very best,” said Lacob. We couldn’t agree more!
