Gartner Names Zoom a Cool Vendor

corp_418_coolVendor2014_refresh_nonoutlinesExciting news! As you all know, Zoom is a fast-moving and fast-growing start up. We’ve shaken up our industry with our awesome platform that combines cloud video conferencing, simple online meetings and mobile collaboration. Now industry analysts are starting to take notice! We’ve had coverage recently from both Gartner and Wainhouse.

Gartner recently listed Zoom among freemium conferencing vendors in the report “Reduce Your Conferencing Costs by Going From Premium to Freemium” (April 18, 2014). This report examined why some companies have been or should be switching to freemium services.

Why is freemium such a great option for some companies? Sorell Slaymaker and Adam Preset, Gartner Research Analysts, focus on cost, quality, and user experience. “Besides providing audio/Web/video conferencing at a significantly reduced cost, freemium conferencing services offer other benefits,” noted the analysts. “Freemium services implement a complete range of high-quality audio and video codecs. First, both the audio and the video are high-definition, so the quality of the experience is often better than the traditional services, assuming there is sufficient network bandwidth. Second, the user interface is intuitive and is integrated with Microsoft and Google email and contacts, which makes it easier for meetings to be scheduled or started ad hoc.”

Zoom was also named a Cool Vendor in the April 9, 2014 Gartner report, “Cool Vendors in Unified Communications.” This report discusses various UC vendors, including Zoom. Among the key findings is that “Low-cost freemium conferencing services are beginning to displace and supplement traditional services, especially for ad hoc events and personal video meetings.”

Wainhouse LogoWainhouse is also taking a close look at Zoom. Zoom was among the video conferencing service providers included in their “Comparison Matrix – Video Conferencing as a Service (VCaaS) Offerings,” which looked at the features, functionality, and pricing models of various providers.
