Case Study: Extreme Networks Combines Zoom and Skype for Business to Rock their Communications

Before incorporating Zoom into their workflow, the team relied solely on Skype for Business for their communications. However, Skype for Business didn’t have the infrastructure and scalability to deliver consistent experiences to external customers and partners. Also, it didn’t support Mac users, which created further challenges as 30% of the internal team used Macs.
As the Extreme Networks team transitioned through supplemental tools, they came across Zoom and had a very positive experience within the initial pilot group. Zoom was easy to use, had positive end-user reviews, and most importantly, did not interfere or compete with Skype for Business.
“It was important to us that Zoom worked well within the Microsoft ecosystem because we’re a Microsoft shop and still rely on Skype integrations with Outlook. We also have a huge investment in H.323 rooms, and Zoom H.323/SIP Connectors were great for modernizing those rooms. Other vendors didn’t have that capability or charged way too much,” says Jeff Creasy, director of IT infrastructure.
Extreme Networks currently employs almost 4,000 team members, and every employee has a Zoom Business account. Two-thirds of their collaborative meeting minutes are now over Zoom, equating to around two million Zoom minutes per month. In addition, Extreme Networks uses Zoom for their all hands, quarterly executive, business review, global, and training meetings.
Generally, small, internal meetings are run on Skype for Business, but high visibility meetings with customers and partners, as well as most video conference room meetings, are run on Zoom.
