With so many exciting milestones, 2017 was an amazing year at Zoom. Zoom was named a Leader in Gartner’s 2017 Magic Quadrant for Meeting Solutions, as well as 2017 Global Video Conferencing Company of the Year by Frost & Sullivan.
As of Zoomtopia 2017, Zoom users have logged over twenty billion annual minutes across more than a hundred countries worldwide. From its humble beginnings, Zoom has revolutionized the communications industry. But what exactly helped Zoom grow so rapidly?
To find out, check out Zoomtopia’s 2017 kick-off where our founder and CEO Eric S. Yuan talks about his career path, and how his unwavering devotion to customer satisfaction and happiness led to the creation of Zoom.
While working as the vice president of engineering at WebEx, Eric saw that WebEx’s customers were often unhappy with the products. Despite Eric’s efforts to increase customer satisfaction by modernizing WebEx’s platforms, Cisco was unwilling to support the major overhaul necessary to create a modern video communications platform. Eric was frustrated from being in a position where he could not help his customers and decided to take matters into his own hands by starting Zoom.
Eric knew the main problem with WebEx was that it was started as a data collaboration platform on a twenty-year-old architecture, and this made it difficult for them to adapt to the needs of modern communication. He knew he had to start his platform from the ground up. More than just data collaboration, Eric had a vision of a single, frictionless communications platform which unified audio, video, collaboration, web conferencing, and conference rooms. Behind this vision, Eric always prioritized customer happiness, which is the foundation of Zoom’s growth.
